What kind of punishment am I looking at for this particular case of credit card fraud?

Age: 17.5. Crime: Credit Card Fraud (Found on Ground, used) Total Spent= 850-900 Dollars. First Criminal Offense of Any kind. Will I be looking at jail time or just fines and community service? Or all three…? How will this affect going to college or succeeding in the working world?
State is Illinois.

Identity theft, fraud, and forgery. If they charge you as an adult you are looking at prison time, a record and lots of problems with getting into college or a job. Stupid.

I found $500 on the ground a few months back and I really needed money for my power bill.. I thought about keeping it, but I would never do such a thing.. I waited for about 10 minutes until I heard someone say they lost their money and I asked them how much and gave it right back to them..

In Texas it’s a State Jail Felony. 2 Years State Jail.
If you’re lucky you get probation. But it is something that will haunt you forever. You might be able to seal it if you get Deferred probation, but if you want to work in a field where you need a state issued license, you’re screwed.

notyou311: nowhere on a normal college application asks if you have a criminal record. actually, if you are applying for a college that requires you to write a paper on why you feel you should attend their institution, they love hearing stories about how "you overcame personal problems and mistakes"

I do not condone crime. What he did was bad and should be punished. But if this was his first offense, does feel regret, can and SHOULD repay the money he spent… he shouldn’t be judged for the rest of his life for something bad he did when he was a kid. Fair punishment? Repay money he spent. Community service. Probation. If he is truly a threat to society, he will violate his parole and go to jail.
